For obvious reasons, the paintings of the Old Masters were never based on photographs.
Mine often are, and often the photos feature distortion created by the camera lens. People understand that a photo is "real" and are therefore ready to accept these distortions; but many find them mystifying in art.
Often I correct photographic distortion, but sometimes I leave it when it adds a touch of drama. And when I post an image like this one (and here, the foreshortening is particularly extreme) somebody always questions me about it.
Well, that's better than being ignored.
