Cristi: Impressionistic Sketch
Here is an oddly-cropped aerial view of Cristi, dozing in her bed. I had to sketch this one from a helicopter.
This is a work of true, old-fashioned Impressionism. It's deliberately hazy and indistinct, suggesting a dreamlike world. It's also rather crude in a couple of spots; but that is a part of the style, as well.
Back to that cropping: This is an extreme case, but the original Impressionists took great delight in slicing off chunks of their subjects, a practice that horrified those expecting formal, contrived compositions. The Impressionists were inspired in this practice by photography, in which a scene is recorded exactly as the camera sees it, even if half of Aunt Suzy is missing.
